Story

One adventure story—an undersea voyage like never before!

The knowledgeable Dr. Food (Franz) comes from Sweet Planet to Earth to investigate the strange discoloration of its oceans.

At the seaside he meets Kye, Tammy, Jack and Doug. The five friends form an adventure team and drive the all-mighty Jolly Jelly Bean Cruiser into the mysterious world beneath the sea.

Along the way they meet all kinds of sea creatures—but when they stumble into Poseidon's birthday party, they are misunderstood and locked in the Jellyfish Dungeon.

Luckily, a little seahorse secretly helps them escape.

Then they discover that Poseidon's good friend, the Great Sea Turtle, has fallen ill…

To save the Great Sea Turtle, and to clear up the misunderstanding between humans and sea creatures, Franz & Friends set off on an undersea adventure about friendship, courage, understanding and teamwork!

About 《Voyage Undersea》

More than a show—an ocean adventure for the whole family

What children see:

  • 🐳 A magical undersea world
  • 🦈 An exciting, funny adventure
  • 🐢 Adorable sea creatures
  • 🎵 Catchy, playful music
  • 💃 Dazzling song, dance and acrobatics
  • ✨ Surprising 3D imagery and special effects

And grown-ups may find even more in the story:

Friendship, courage, empathy, teamwork, responsibility—and our relationship with nature.

《Voyage Undersea》 hopes that children will start by loving the characters, then gradually get to know the ocean and care about the environment—so that “protecting the Earth” is no longer just a line in a textbook, but a small action that can begin in everyday life.

A family musical that children enjoy watching, throw themselves into, and leave with something to think about
🌊 A 3D undersea fantasy—without glasses

3D animated scenery, film special effects and live performance intertwine to create a dazzling, ever-changing undersea kingdom.

Experience the magic of 3D imagery woven into live theater, as if diving into the mysterious deep alongside Franz.

Animation, light, puppets and performers blend on stage, so the virtual and the real unfold into a thrilling adventure before your eyes.

🐠 Original puppets × sea creatures: all your undersea friends together!

Sharks, jellyfish, seahorses, the Great Sea Turtle…

All kinds of colorful, adorable sea creatures will meet you on stage!

Performers transform into sea creatures, combining finely crafted original puppets with drama, dance and physical performance to build an ocean home full of life.

🎵 Music, singing, dance and acrobatics—all in one!

The music is by renowned producer Hou Zhi-jian, the show's Music Director and Composer. Catchy songs and imaginative undersea music, together with energetic dance and dazzling physical performance, let the story sing, dance and adventure all the way, taking children into a mysterious, colorful world beneath the sea!

🌊 A real undersea experience that became an adventure to protect the ocean

Many divers have seen plastic, bottles, cans and all kinds of rubbish scattered across the beautiful sea floor. When sea creatures' homes are damaged, that heartache makes us ask: what can we do for the ocean?

This care for the ocean became the starting point of 《Voyage Undersea》. Through music, drama, dance, animated light and imagination, we hope to take children into the undersea world, to get to know and feel the ocean through adventure, and to learn together how to protect our beautiful blue home.

What Audiences Say

“Lively, fun and educational. On leaving, the children were singing and dancing and clamoring to be friends with Franz—truly a 3D musical fantasy worth gathering your friends for!”

“I've always loved IMT's multimedia theater—every time brings a new, moving shock. 《Voyage Undersea》 is really good; my child was glued to it, thrilled, for the entire show.”

“A really special visual shock, and the songs are catchy and lovely. It's my first time seeing a children's stage production with LV-level (luxury-brand) gorgeousness—it feels great!”

“This is the best family show I've ever seen. The story is touching and meaningful, the imagery colorful and three-dimensional, the music lovely, and the actors and dancers gave their all.”

“A great format—combining stage play, musical and modern technology to teach through entertainment, so that children, without noticing, pick up some simple awareness of ocean environmental problems.”

“First-rate dance and acrobatics, exquisitely made props and costumes, and very educational—excellent!”

Production | Image in Motion Theater

Founded in 2000 by producer and curator Serina Chen and by group leader and Artistic Director Yau Chen, Image in Motion Theater (IMT) is devoted to combining animation, imaging technology and the performing arts. It brings together talent in dance, theater, music, 3D animation, film special effects, interactive technology and stage design to explore every possibility of multimedia theater. The name “影舞集” (Image in Motion) means bringing imagery onto the stage, and symbolizes the fusion of image and dance—using theater space, stage technology and live performance to build richly layered visual worlds where the virtual and the real interweave.

Major works include the animated dance theater pieces 《Not a Love Story》, 《My Shadow and I》 and 《Dilatation》; the virtual-reality animated dance theater 《@Dream》; the large outdoor mobile theater pieces 《Metamorphosis》 (《水變》) and 《Wind-Catcher》 (《捕風彩雲手》); the interactive multimedia theater 《Imagining Kung Fu》; the improvised dance work 《Chanceformation》; and the fully improvised multimedia theater 《Wind, Flower, Snow and Moon》 (《隨之變/風花雪月》). IMT also led video design for the musical 《In Love with Carmen》 starring A-Mei (Chang Hui-mei) and for the Shanghai World Expo thematic show 《Window of the City》, and created and toured the immersive musical fantasy 《Franz & Friends — Voyage Undersea》.

In recent years IMT has taken part in Weiwuying's 《Memories under the Banyan Trees》, the “Research on 5G Applications in the Performing Arts” project, and the original stage play 《Love · Quarantine》, continuing to use architectural projection mapping, motion capture and AR/MR mixed reality to expand the creative frontiers of imaging technology and live performance.

Supervising Producer | Taipei Arts International Association (TAIA)

With the mission of opening new horizons for Chinese-language arts, TAIA has long been a key driving force for Taiwan's performing arts and international cultural exchange.

TAIA was founded in 1998 by curator, director and producer Serina Chen, who organized the first Taipei Arts Festival that same year and continued it in 1999, establishing international standards for large-scale arts festivals in Taiwan. TAIA went on to host the International City Arts Festival and to launch major events including the Taiwan World Music Festival, the Taiwan International Dance Camp, “Wild Olympia” (原野奧林匹亞), the NTCH Plaza Arts Festival (兩廳院廣場藝術節) and the “World Theatre Academy” (世界劇人學苑), bringing in forward-looking international art and cross-disciplinary creativity and building a platform that connects Taiwan with the world.

TAIA has also invested in original and technology-based art, establishing Image in Motion Theater to bring multimedia, digital imagery and interactive technology into theater, with works such as 《Fantasy Maze》 (《奇幻迷宮》) and the 3D fantasy multimedia musical 《Franz & Friends — Voyage Undersea》, continually exploring new forms of performing arts.

In 2016 the Taipei City Government commissioned TAIA as chief planner and organizer of the cultural program for the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade, staging more than twenty programs and nearly two hundred performances and events that linked art and sport. TAIA continues to work in cultural and creative industry research, arts talent development and international exchange, aiming to be a platform that gathers artistic talent and resources, broadens audience participation and advances Taiwan's cultural and creative industries.

Throughout, TAIA has believed that art is more than a performance on stage—it can be the starting point for children to understand the world, spark their imagination and feel what is beautiful. 《Franz & Friends — Voyage Undersea》 grew out of that belief.
