Since it started in year 2000, every production of IMT is a break-through creation that sets new milestone on the joint of technology and arts. 2010 The only thematic show in the World EXPO Shanghai 《Window of the City 》 This multimedia musical production had been performed more than 500 performances in 184 days. Million visitors were attracted by the magical production that consisted of a great number of image creation, a stage that’s rotating and synchronized with music and video images on LED and projections.


Artistic Director Yau CHEN
Founder of Image in Motion Theater Company, previously worked as a special effect director, artistic director in Hollywood animation films. Yau Chen’s creation mainly focus on the combination of voice, motion, virtual reality and performing art, through her creation, audience can see themselves immersed in an imaginative space. In 1992, she presented her graduate thesis:《ChanceFormation》, an short animation that won the Siggraph award in the art reel category, and《ChanceFormation》also took first place at Taiwan’s Golden Belt award for best experiment film category.

In the 90’s, after a decade in designing computer animation and visual effects, Chen experienced the booming development of visual effects in the Hollywood film industry; she participated as an animation director, artistic director, special effect director, and production department director for various films and large scale productions; for films:《Mortal Kombat》, 《Batman Forever》, 《Under Siege II》, 《Matilda》, 《For Richer or Poorer》, 《Kull the Conqueror》; for large scale productions: Omnimax’s 《Star Quest》, Universal Studio’s 《Escape from the Lost City》, along with several short clips, tv shows, as well as commercials. In 2000, in order to expand and explore different ways to improve methods for story-telling, Yau Chen and Serina Chen started to discover the possibilities of integrating visual technology with art production, which came to the birth of Image in Motion Theatre Company (IMT) and had gathered animators, visual designers, performance artists, stage designers and engineers to create and develop a brand new theatre performance filled with limitless imagination for audience to experience.

Producer and Director in Chief|Serina CHEN
Founder and producer of Image in Motion Theater Company, director of Taipei Arts International Association, International Arts Festival curator, producer in Chief of 2010 Shanghai World Expo thematic show “Window of the City.” As an outstanding art production director and curator, Serina Chen maintains the ideal of “staying in-sync with the world, develop diverse cultural exchanges, reveal modern artistic trends, and place Asian art forms on the international stage,” a goal that endowed her one of the world’s most venerated curators by the European League of Art. Chen founded Taipei Arts International Association in 1997 and launched《Taipei Arts Festival》, years of《Taipei International Arts Festival》and《Taipei International Dance Workshop》, as well as the first《World Music Festival》in Taiwan. These diverse international productions connected Taiwanese artistic events with the world. Chen was the producer for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo thematic show and received Exhibitor Magazine’s Best Presentation Award for Expo 2010, an achievement witnessed by millions of audience and countless media bodies.

Committed to the education of preforming art forms and cultural policies, Chen assumed guest speaker for various lectures held by Council for Cultural Affairs and numerous Department of Cultural Affairs offices around Taiwan as well as several universities such as Chinese Culture University, Fu Jen Catholic University, Taipei National University of Arts, and the prestigious Soochow University. She also conducted long-term research in development of creative industries, performing arts in great China and cultural policies, stimulated international artistic exchange and cultivation of artistic talents. As one of the founders of Taiwan Performing Arts Alliance, Chen acted as executive director of the alliance, promoted cultural forums, and committed to the development of well-rounded art forms.
